COMMUNITY HEALTH COUNCILS participates in International No Menthol Sunday Weekend Events during the month of May:

During the weekend of May 14-16, Community Health Councils co-sponsored and participated in three events in collaboration with The African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council in California, AMPLIFY!, Families Fighting Flavored Tobacco, Community Coalition and The Center for Black Health and Equity. These events are part of CHC’s “Building Community Resiliency” Focus Area through the Healthy Kids Zone Initiative. Now incorporated into Best Start, this Initiative is a multi-level and-issue, place-based approach that brings community members within a ½ mile radius of a school to work together to identify community challenges and health promoting policy solutions to those challenges. This community-driven participatory process with residents and strategic community partners identified educating the public about the deceptive messages of Big Tobacco and fighting the dangers of flavor tobacco in our Black and Brown communities in South Los Angeles. The purpose of this weekend was commemoration through education and mobilization in the fight for the health and safety of Black and Latinx communities from the predatory practices of Big Tobacco.
